ABOUT OUR FARM
Bahner Farm is a 49 acre farm in beautiful Belmont, ME. We own our farm on Rt. 3 as well as some fields on Howard Rd., and lease fields in two other locations in Belmont and Searsmont. We cultivate 6 acres of mixed vegetables for our farmstand, Daybreak Growers Alliance, and wholesale accounts.
Bahner Farm is easy to find on Maine Route 3, about five miles west of downtown Belfast, at 153 Augusta Road, Belmont, Maine 04952.
How We Started
Meet the Farmers
Christa
Christa worked on several Maine farms before deciding to go back to school to study Plant and Soil Sciences at UMass Amherst. In late 2007 she started Double Bit Farm with Molly Crouse as part of the MOFGA Farmer-in-Residence Program and spent two years farming with Molly.
Christa’s favorite veggies include Sun Gold tomatoes, sugar snap peas and asparagus. She loves hiking, camping, and swimming as much as possible.
Mike
Mike met Mark Guzzi of Peacemeal Farm while in school at UMaine Orono. He worked at Peacemeal for four years, learning the ins and outs of the organic vegetable production business.
He loves welding, tractors, and anything you can hook up to a tractor. His farm-grown favorites include Hakurei summer turnips, beets, and Striped German tomatoes. In the winter he also manages to devote some time to skiing and lots of sledding with the kids.
Lizzy & Nicky
Lizzy and Nicky are busy growing and helping out on the farm. Lizzy’s favorite veggies are peas and cherry tomatoes, and she loves to help in the farmstand. Nicky is growing and learning fast, attempting to catch up with his big sister, and is always willing to lend a hand.
The kids have their own garden, and sell their veggies and flowers in the farmstand.
