Bahner Farm is a 37 acre farm in beautiful Belmont, ME. We have an amazing view, an old barn, and a house that we look forward to fixing up over the years. We cultivate five acres of mixed vegetables for our farmstand, farmers markets, our CSA and Winter Buying Club. Bahner Farm is easy to find on Maine Route 3, about five miles west of downtown Belfast, at 153 Augusta Road, Belmont, Maine 04952. We are MOFGA-Certified Organic farm growing both produce and seedlings.
Meet your farmers, Christa & Mike Bahner
After working together on other farms, as well as running our own businesses, we joined forces in 2009 to form Bahner Farm. During a great inaugural season, we got married on July 4th, 2010. We were delighted to add Lizzy to our family in the spring of 2011 and Nicky in the fall of 2013.
Christa apprenticed on several Maine farms before deciding to go back to school to study Plant and Soil Sciences at UMass Amherst. In late 2007 she started Double Bit Farm with Molly Crouse as part of the MOFGA Farmer in Residence Program. She spent two great years farming with Molly before she and Mike joined forces and started their own venture. Christa’s favorite veggies include Sun Gold tomatoes, sugar snap peas and asparagus. She loves hiking, camping, and swimming as much as possible.
Mike met Mark Guzzi of Peacemeal Farm while in school at UMaine Orono. He worked at Peacemeal for four years, learning the ins and outs of the organic vegetable production business before joining forces with Christa to form Bahner Farm. He loves welding, tractors, and anything you can hook up to a tractor. His farm-grown favorites include Hakurei summer turnips, beets, and Striped German tomatoes. In the winter he also manages to devote some time to skiing and lots of sledding with the kids.
Lizzy and Nicky are busy growing and learning the ins and outs of the farm. Lizzy’s favorite veggies are peas and cherry tomatoes, and she loves to help in the greenhouse. Nicky is growing and learning fast, attempting to catch up with his big sister, and is always willing to lend a hand. The kids have their own garden, and will sell their own veggies and flowers in the farmstand and at Camden Farmer’s Market.
Bahner Farm farmstand is open daily from 10am to 6pm during the growing season. Produce may also be found at Camden, Bar Harbor and Northwest Harbor Farmers’ Markets.
